The Amos Claudius Sawyer Foundation

The Amos Claudius Sawyer Foundation is an independent, non-partisan public policy and governance foundation established to honor the life, leadership, and intellectual legacy of Professor Amos Claudius Sawyer, a distinguished Liberian scholar, statesman, and former Interim President of the Republic of Liberia. The Foundation works to bridge critical governance gaps in Liberia and the broader sub-region through evidence-based analysis, advisory services, public engagement, and targeted programming in democratic governance, the rule of law, and peacebuilding.

Informed by the enduring values of Professor Sawyer’s life—integrity, justice, and inclusive leadership—the Foundation marshals research, capacity building, policy dialogue, and community initiatives to contribute to more transparent, accountable, and resilient societies. Its work addresses contemporary public sector challenges while nurturing the next generation of leaders dedicated to democratic ideals and equitable governance.

Our Vision

The Foundation’s vision is to deepen and enrich the sub-regional think tank space by providing unique, evidence-based analysis, advisory, and policy support services. It aims to enable stakeholders—from government leaders to civil society actors—to engage constructively, resolve complex governance challenges, and promote democratic governance, the rule of law, and peacebuilding across local, national, and geo-political contexts.

Mission Statement

The Amos Claudius Sawyer Foundation’s mission is to honor the legacy of Professor Amos Claudius Sawyer by contributing to bridging governance gaps in the sub-region. It does this by fostering a democratic culture, facilitating informed debates on public policy, and supporting evidence-based policy making. Central to its mission is the belief that sustainable governance and inclusive development arise from informed citizen engagement, strong institutions, and ethical leadership.
